Directional Chaos and the Internet

I don't pretend to know who came up with the idea of Directional Chaos, but in my opinion it is one way to label the forces of web development in the 21st centry. We are all developing connections to major hubs of information, and in our own way meandering towards oxymoronic terms like 'Distributed Hierarchies of Data'. What I mean by that is a web environment with very strict control on personal data contained in massive quantities in specific locations; a very diverse range of content distributed out across the net in various formats; and very common, open, and secure forms of user recognition through crowdsourced APIs to connect the two.

The most obvious example of this is Facebook and Twitter. The personal information contained in these two social media networks is in the hundreds of terrabytes and growing. Both of these websites have public APIs, and coding environments for people to play around with and add custom content to their profiles. I only see this trend growing, as other smaller networks like Netflix, and even Dominos pizza adapting custom social media content for linked data to be posted between the two. Because the friends I have on Facebook really need to know when my Pizza is going to be delivered.

Whatever the future holds for us, and whatever comes of "web 2.0" I have no idea. But you can be guranteed I'll be around to add my $.02.
